Our hospital-based EMS service selected EMERGICON as a result of an endeavor to outsource our billing to someone who specializes in the intricacies of EMS billing. Cooke County EMS transitioned to EMERGICON in November 2014. We have had previous experiences with other billing providers. It has been our experience that Emergicon has been doing an outstanding job for Cooke County. We have noticed a significant decrease in appeals, and the appeals we do receive are taken care of immediately. They bill the “right way the first time.” The entire staff that we work with are friendly, professional and all of our questions are answered quickly and accurately. They also have great follow-up skills. We have noticed a steady increase in our collections without the headaches we had with other billing providers.
The drawing factor to EMERGICON in the beginning was the fact that each account was actually touched by a person and there is much less reliance on automation as well as they are a local Texas business involved in the EMS community which I think makes them more accountable. As an agency, we have better satisfied customers/patients which makes our job much easier. The calls from frustrated patients have significantly decreased and just in the first quarter of 13/14 our collections have increased by over 34% versus the same time period last year with our previous billing company. I feel like every claim is handled with a very hands on approach instead of just handling the “easy” claims…If there is any sort of a problem (such as signatures or missing documentation, etc.) the agency is notified within a matter of days to correct instead of it just being tossed aside.
